I flew too close to the sun, got too big for my britches…

I’ll probably lose some of you here, but this is just my current take - and, as always, it’s subject to change.  This bottle has been nothing but praised, and it seems like the hype train just chugs along with every new batch.  It’s pretty commonly accepted that every well-reviewed, whiskey-of-the-year-candidate-type bourbon is going to be cask strength, high-proof, uncut, unfiltered, etc, but I’m not there yet.  Sadly, for me and my novice palate Larceny BP is a little hot.

I can still pick out cinnamon and baking spices, some vanilla and caramel. But I also get some heavy burn.  I have friends who say so much of the opposite, however, and I’m told it’s very smooth 😂.  It’s even wheated, which is typically love.

I’ve been trying the B522 batch, which is one of the higher proofs they’ve released, and I’ve heard C923 may be sweeter. So I may try to get my hands on a different one.  I’ve got another nice barrel proof offering waiting on my shelf that I may wait a while to try after my experience with this one.  I probably need to work my way up to it.  I know connoisseurs love the high octane stuff but I’m just not one of them yet.

Just because I’m a wuss and am partial to weaker whiskeys (at the moment) doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check out Larceny BP.  If you’re an experienced whiskey drinker, or just not afraid of the strong ones, you should put this on your list. Everyone else seems to love it.

Larceny Barrel Proof is supposedly allocated but has not been too rare in my experience.  I spot it on lots of shelves locally, but that may not be the case everywhere.  Here’s the best shipped option I could locate:

I promise to revisit this one down the road. For now, it’s on THE LIST.
