Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast
This is my first time tasting anything from Redwood Empire. Given the theme of this site and my obsessions with all things bear and all things whiskey, it wasn’t one I could pass up.
Going in with no expectations was great. I hadn’t heard much about this one, and that’s probably just because I’m new at this - but so are they. Redwood Empire was founded in 2018 and their distillery is headquartered in Sonoma County, California. Sustainability is their thing and they reference John Muir their branding and offerings.
Off the bat my nose got grenadine and tastes were of toasted marshmallows, vanilla, and cherry candy. It’s mild on the spice, somewhat sweet but pleasant. It’s very smooth. The only knock is that it can grow a tiny bit syrupy further down the glass. It’s also less punchy than some for the steep price, but this is still an extremely enjoyable pour.
This is probably my first review somewhat outside of the mainstream. The bottle is a little pricey at $90 but I’ve enjoyed it. I’ll be coming back to check out more Redwood Empire bourbons. This was the cheapest shipper I could locate:
It’s ranked on THE LIST.
