Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a finished bourbon, put through an additional barreling in new, heavily-charred oak barrels after its traditional aging. The new wood imparts more saturated flavors than are found in traditionally-aged bourbons and, in this case, makes for an almost dessert-like profile.
The nose emits brown sugar sweetness and oak, of course. The sip is very oak and vanilla heavy with caramel, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow. There are other fire-adjacent or toasty notes present, and a unique smokiness. The finish is clean and dry with some lingering pepper.
The taste profile and creation process for this bottle share many similarities with Old Forrester 1910. I found Woodford Double Oaked to be slightly sweeter and more oak forward but actually preferred the subtler Old Forrester. That said, I still totally love this bottle and will be sure to always keep one around.
Retail price is around $45-$60 and it should be fairly common and easy to find. You can also order it for delivery here:
It’s also on THE LIST compared to the others. Until next time.
