Jack Daniel’s 10 Year (B02)

Distillery: Jack Daniel’s

Age: 10 Years

Proof: 97

Verdict: The first Jack Daniel’s on the list might be one of the best.

Score: 7.64

I’ll confess, I went after this bottle after reading other reviews on it.  People seem to really love it.  On the other hand, I’ve never had the highest opinion of JD.  I sort of always thought of it as mass-produced swill.  So maybe my biases were balanced out going into it.  But when all was said and done, I thought Jack Daniels 10 Year was a pretty great pour.

I should mention that I’m drinking Batch 02, which is not the latest release as of writing.  Batch 03 hit shelves recently and I haven’t gotten ahold of one yet.  If/when I do, I plan to do a blind head-to-head write-up.

The nose gives bananas, which I understand is a JD signature note.  It also gets other assorted fruitiness with some ethanol.  The palate is likewise fruity and sweet, but with a contrasting finish that is drier and oaky.  It’s much more complex than I expected and you can really taste the 10 years in the barrel.

Needless to say, my thoughts on Jack Daniel’s as a brand have changed.  They seem to have reinvented themselves and I’ll certainly be tuning in for more.  For now, this bottle can be found here:

It’s on THE LIST with the others. More soon!
